IFLAC Petition: We call on World Media to promote a Peace Treaty between Palestine and Israel

Ada Aharoni has created a new petition to promote a peace treaty between Palestine and Israel. Her goal is to get 600 signatures. She hopes you will sign the petition and pass it on.

We call on World Media to promote
a Peace Treaty between Palestine & Israel

This is very important as it is beneficial to both Palestinians and Israelis to make peace not war. It is also in the interest of the Middle East, and of the whole world. Egypt and Jordan have already succeeded to reach and sign Peace Treaties with Israel. With their help, and that of the World Media, including the Internet, it is crucial to promote a Peace Treaty between Palestinians and Israelis, that would enable the creation of a free, peaceful Palestine.

Please sign the petition and pass it on.

Open Peace Letter from IFLAC to Hamas Leaders

In this open letter to the leaders of Hamas, IFLAC outlines the conditions necessary to reach the proposed 3-5 year ceasefire: Hamas must revise their Charter and delete the conspiracy clauses and the clauses calling for the destruction of Israel, stop the firing of rockets on Israeli villages, and demolish and cease the rebuilding of tunnels into Israel. This would be in the interest of both the Palestinians and the Israelis, and could pave the way to a lasting Peace Treaty.

The letter is written by IFLAC Founder Dr. Ada Aharoni, together with IFLAC Peace Ambassadors Kate Dong (Hong Kong) and Moran Balaish (Israel). It is one in a series of open letters from IFLAC to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the leaders of Hamas:

Abu Marzuk, Deputy Head of Hamas

    OPEN PEACE LETTER
    FROM IFLAC TO HAMAS LEADERS

    To The Hamas Leaders,

We at “IFLAC: The International Forum for the Literature and Culture of Peace” are glad to hear that you are willing to consider the proposal of a 3- to 5-year Hudna (Cease Fire), between Israel and Hamas suggested by Robert Serry, the outgoing U.N. representative to the Middle East. Your answer was that all parties should respond positively to the proposal. This proposal will further the opening crossings to enable Gaza’s full and accelerated recovery and reconstruction. As Serry suggested, “The rehabilitation of Gaza will take years and for that we need time and a commitment from all concerned parties for a long-term reconstruction Hudna. We urge you to commit yourselves with a freeze of all military activities above and below the ground.

    The First Condition:
Robert Serry’s suggestion is wise and crucial. It would alleviate the hardships and misery of the Palestinian people and enable them to rebuild their houses. It is possible that Israel would accept a Hudna only if, as Serry states: all military activities and the firing of rockets on Israeli villages would be stopped, and the rebuilding of tunnels leading into Israel should cease at once, and all the tunnels should be completely demolished. This would be in the interest of both the Palestinians and the Israelis, and could pave the way to peace between them.

    The Second Condition:
The Hamas Charter should be changed. We at IFLAC suggest that the articles in the Hamas Charter that are unacceptable clauses for a peace partner should be eliminated. We call upon you to delete the following articles:

    1. First of all, the Preamble to the Hamas Charter that states: ″Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam invalidates it…″ has to be deleted.

Israel has no intention whatsoever to be destroyed or to let Islam invalidate or invade it! The State of Israel will protect its citizens with all its might, as it always did in the past, from any renewal of bombing from Hamas. What will happen if Hamas renews again its attacks on Israel with rockets shot on peaceful Israeli villages, is that Gaza will be destroyed again, and the poor Palestinian people will be those who will suffer most, still more than in the past!

    2. Article number 13 states: “There is no negotiated settlement possible. Jihad is the only answer.”

If so, why has Hamas recently requested again to renew the negotiations and peace talks with Israel? On what basis? The basis that “no negotiated settlement is possible” is an impossible basis for two serious partners to discuss peace. This article 13 has to be eliminated immediately, if you, the Hamas leaders, are serious in wanting the peace talks to succeed this time.

    3. Article number 14 states that: “The liberation of Palestine is the personal duty of every Palestinian.”

This article too is also in a counter direction to genuine peace negotiations. Article 14 instigates hatred of Israel and it incites Palestinian to destroy Israel and its people. This article too has to be immediately deleted if you want serious and responsible peace talks to take place between the two sides of the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict, or if you really desire a Hudna of 3- to 5- years to take place as Serry suggested.

    4. Article 28, which states that “Israel, Judaism and Jews are a conspiracy against Islam.”

This too is a completely negative and false accusation against the Jewish people and Israel. The following statement too is erroneous: “The Zionist invasion is a vicious invasion. It does not refrain from resorting to all methods, using all evil and contemptible ways to achieve its end. It relies greatly in its infiltration and espionage operations … They aim at undermining societies, destroying values, corrupting consciences, deteriorating character and annihilating Islam.”

As the negative and false articles above, Article 28 too is not only basically totally false, but it also aims at propounding dishonest and vicious views that are often used in poisonous Palestinian propaganda. This article too should also be immediately eliminated as its lies and false statements present a wrong image of Israel which leads to hatred of the Jewish people. Israel is a legitimate State established by the majority of the United Nations in May 1948, and not a “vicious invasion”. Among the blatant lies in this article is that Israel’s aim is to annihilate Islam! Israel has no intention whatsoever of “annihilate Islam”, its intention is to live in peace and good relations with its peaceful Muslim neighbors.

Please Hamas leaders, do your best to convince your people, and all the parties in Gaza, that “War, violence and hatred” are not the way to an honest Hudna, that could lead to a lasting Peace Treaty between the two people, who are both earnest in reaching reconciliation and peace. The way is to come to the peace negotiation table with an open heart and mind and not with false negative conceptions and false fixed defamation of the partner Israel. Only in this way can the negotiations between two open, honest and willing partners with no prejudices, reach a successful result, accepted by both sides.

The offending articles above in the Hamas Charter should be eliminated completely, if you honestly want the proposed Hudna to take place. In addition, the whole Hamas Charter needs a general revision, if you really want the forthcoming peace negotiations to succeed this time. No talks can start with a partner who from the outset wants to destroy your country and to kill all its inhabitants. So, Hamas leaders be objective, revise all the negative and hatred aspects of your Charter, and completely delete the four offending and unacceptable articles mentioned above. For the sake of peace between our two people, the Palestinians and the Israelis, we at IFLAC propose that you change, as soon as possible, the entire views and goals of your Charter.

We are looking forward to the paving of a Peace Treaty between a free and peaceful Palestine to the side of her neighbor Israel, like the one between Israel and Egypt, and between Israel and Jordan. A Peace Treaty between the two people Palestinians and Israelis, would give the opportunity to the Palestinian people to have a State of their own and to flourish by the side of their neighbor Israel. The whole world would help a peaceful Palestine to be developed, including Israel.

We are looking forward to your positive response that would stop the rivers of blood between the two brothers, Ishmael and Isaac, the two sons of their common father Abraham. This is in the interest of both the Palestinian people and the Israeli people.

    Inshallah! Halvai! May it Be!

Open Letter to Khaled Mashal – Chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau

In a series of open letters to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas leaders, IFLAC appeals to Hamas to change their Charter and attitude toward Israel in order to map out the path to a peace treaty between Israel and Palestine, like the one Israel has with Egypt and Jordan.

“We think that it would greatly help if you come to live among your people, the Palestinians in Gaza,” IFLAC writes in the letter below to Khaled Mashal, chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau, who resides in Kuwait.

The letter is written by IFLAC Founder Dr. Ada Aharoni and Moran Balaish, IFLAC Peace Ambassador for Israel.

    OPEN LETTER TO PALESTINIAN LEADER
KHALED MASHAL – CHAIRMAN OF THE HAMAS POLITICAL BUREAU

To: Mr. Khaled Mashal, Head of Hamas in Gaza, resident in Kuwait

    Dear Leader Khaled Mashal,

We at “IFLAC: The International Forum for the Literature and Culture of Peace” send you this open PEACE PLEA in the hope that it will help to end the Conflict and Wars between Hamas and Israel. We think that it would greatly help if you come to live among your people, the Palestinians in Gaza, and guide them to a Peace Treaty with Israel, like the one with Egypt, and with Jordan.

To resolve the conflict, both Hamas and Israel should mutually recognize each other’s national aspirations. Hamas should recognize the legitimacy of the State of Israel, and Israel should abolish the occupation, and recognize the legitimate aspiration of the Palestinian people to a free and viable Palestinian State, living in peace by the side of its neighbor Israel.

To accomplish this goal the following steps are needed on both the Palestinian and Israeli sides:

    1. Hamas under your direction is the responsible leader in Gaza
To reach mutual recognition, Hamas should stop firing rockets at Israel, as it did again on 23.04.2015. Hamas under your direction from Kuwait, is the responsible leader in Gaza and it should not allow any rockets to be fired at Israeli villages anymore.

If as you recently declared, that the Hamas hatred Charter is not relevant anymore, Hamas should now publish a Peace Charter that clearly acknowledges the recognition of the legitimate State of Israel, and at the same time, it should demand the end of the occupation and the recognition by Israel of the Palestinian aspiration to a free Palestinian State.

    2. WAR IS NOT THE WAY!
Hamas has tried several times to destroy Israel and has failed, as the last time in “Tzuk Eitan” (starting 8th of July, 2014). The poor Palestinian people have not yet rebuilt their houses and what would happen if Hamas resumes its firing of rockets at Israel as it did last week, Israel would again be forced to defend its people, and again it is the Palestinian people who would suffer most! If you are there among them, in Gaza, as a wise and responsible leader, you could rationally convince the local leaders of all factions, that War is not in their interest, and not the way to the creation of a Palestinian State. Hamas should follow the road of peace taken by Egypt, and not the aggressive road of Iran that sends its arms to start an additional war to destroy Israel.

    3. Advantages of a Hamas Peace Charter
The advantages of changing the Hamas aggressive Charter and attitude toward Israel to one of peace, objectivity and openness, could pave the way to a Peace Treaty between Israel and Palestine, as the important Peace Treaty Israel has with Egypt and with Jordan. It is to the advantage of the Palestinian people and of Hamas, to adopt a totally different and new attitude toward its neighbor Israel. This revolutionary attitude could pave the way to everything which the Palestinian people aspire to: including a port of their own in Gaza, as well as an airport in a free and peaceful Palestine.

    4. We appeal to you Mr. Khaled Mashal, as a responsible and rational Chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau, to come and live in Gaza among your people, and to do your best to convince the Palestinian leaders and people of Gaza to resolve their inner problems as quickly as possible, so that Israel can accept the Hudna (cease fire) which Hamas proposes for 3-5 years. Only if the Hamas Charter and attitude toward Israel is changed to a Peace Charter and attitude, can the peace negotiations between Israeli and Palestinian leaders be resumed, and lead to a fruitful future for both the Palestinian and the Israeli people.

We are looking forward to your response to our IFLAC PEACE PLEA, and hope that it will be positive. Recently we sent an Open Peace Letter too, to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and to Deputy Head of Hamas, Mr. Abu Marzuk.

    OPEN LETTER TO PALESTINIAN LEADER
    MOUSSA MOHAMMED ABU MARZUK

    ( موسى محمد أبو مرزوق‎ )

    To: Mr. Abu Marzuk
Deputy Head of Hamas’ Political Bureau, Gaza.

    Dear Leader Abu Marzuk,

We at “IFLAC: The International Forum for the Literature and Culture of Peace” were glad to read what you wrote: “There’s no doubt that there is a realistic recognition on our part of Israel, which exists in the territory … and we all acknowledge these agreements”.

The goal by both Hamas and Israel should now be mutual recognition of national aspirations. Hamas should recognize the legitimacy of the State of Israel (as you inferred above), and Israel should abolish the occupation, and recognize the legitimate aspiration of the Palestinian people to a free and viable Palestinian State living in peace by the side of its neighbor Israel.

To accomplish this goal the following steps are needed on both the Palestinian and Israeli sides:

    1. Mutual Recognition of National Aspirations
There should be mutual recognition of each other Israel and Palestine. Hamas should stop firing rockets at Israel as it did again last night (23.04.2015). Hamas is the responsible leader in Gaza and it should not allow any rockets to be fired at Israeli villages anymore. If as Hamas declared that its hatred Charter is not relevant anymore, it should publish a Peace Charter that clearly acknowledges the recognition of the legitimate State of Israel, and demanding the end of the occupation and demanding the recognition by Israel of its aspiration to a free Palestinian State.

    2. WAR IS NOT THE WAY!
Hamas has tried several times to destroy Israel and has failed, as the last time in “Tzuk Eitan” (starting 8th of July, 2014). The poor Palestinian people have not yet rebuilt their houses and what would happen if Hamas resumes its firing of rockets at Israel (like it did last night), Israel would again be forced to defend its people, and again it is the Palestinian people who would suffer most!

    3. Advantages of a Hamas Peace Charter
The advantages of changing the Hamas attitude of aggression toward Israel to one of objectivity, openness and peace, could pave the way to a Peace Treaty between Israel and Palestine, as the important Peace Treaty it has with Egypt and with Jordan. It is to the advantage of the Palestinian people and especially of Hamas, to adopt a totally new attitude to its neighbor Israel. This could pave the way to everything which the Palestinian people aspire to: a port of its own in Gaza, as well as an airport in a free and peaceful Palestine.

    4. We appeal to you Mr. Abu Marzuk, as a responsible and rational Senior Leader, to convince the Palestinian leaders and people of Gaza to resolve their inner problems as quickly as possible, so that Israel can accept the Hudna (cease fire) which Hamas proposes for 3-5 years. Only if the Hamas Charter is changed to a Peace Charter, can the peace negotiations between Israeli and Palestinian leaders be resumed and lead to a fruitful future for both the Palestinian and the Israeli people.

We are looking forward to your response to our plea, and hope that it will be positive. Recently we sent an Open Peace Letter too, to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and we hope that we will soon receive a positive response from him too.

Open Letter to President Abbas: Strengthen your status as a reliable partner for peace

With the Israeli elections coming up in March 2015, IFLAC has sent an open letter to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, appealing to him to use his authority to have Hamas revise their Charter and delete the conspiracy clauses and the clauses calling for the destruction of Israel. The Preamble to the Charter states that “Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam invalidates it.” In another statement, we read that the Jews “aim at undermining societies, destroying values, corrupting consciences, deteriorating character and annihilating Islam.”

Statements like these are counterproductive to the peace process. “The way is to come to the peace table with an open heart and mind and not with false negative conceptions and fixed defamation of the partner. Only in this way can the negotiations between two open, honest and willing partners reach a successful result, accepted by both sides,” IFLAC writes.

    12/2/15

URGENT OPEN LETTER FROM IFLAC TO
    PRESIDENT MAHMOUD ABBAS

    Dear President Abbas,

When we at “IFLAC: The International Forum for the Literature and Culture of Peace”, saw you march in Paris in the protest against the killing of the journalists of “Charlie Hebdo” and the four Jews at the “Supermarket Kasher”, we became still more convinced that you are a reliable partner for the forthcoming peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians.

Unfortunately, not all Israelis are convinced that you are a reliable partner. It is very important to convince them before the general elections in Israel in mid-March, so as to promote the path of true peace. This is why we urgently apply to you President Abbas, to help us strengthen your status as the only reliable Palestinian partner for peace between our two people.

The strengthening of your Status as a reliable Partner

To strengthen your status as a reliable Partner we suggest two radical changes.

Our first request concerns the removal from your Facebook and from all other public display of your offending inaccurate Doctoral Thesis and your book based on it: The Other Side: the Secret Relationship Between Nazism and Zionism (Arabic: al-Wajh al-Akhar: al-‘Alaqat as-Sirriya bayna an-Naziya wa’s-Sihyuniya, 1984). Concerning the false contents of this book, you later wrote: “We were at war with Israel. Today I would not have made such remarks”. You have repeatedly agreed that the information in your thesis about the Jews collaborating with Hitler during the Second World War and other inaccuracies were false, so why display the Thesis and your Book with this false information?

Already in 2003 when you were appointed Palestinian Prime Minister, you wrote: “The Holocaust was a terrible, unforgivable crime against the Jewish nation, a crime against humanity that cannot be accepted by humankind”. And in an interview in 2011 you emphasized that you do “not deny the Holocaust” and that you accept that there were six million victims in the horrible Nazi Holocaust. And lately, in October 2014, you stated again that the Holocaust was the “most heinous crime in the modern era”. These are the statements that should be widely displayed in schools, universities and on the public media, that would strengthen your status as a reliable Partner.

When Israelis see your offending thesis and book displayed, they have the impression that you still stand behind their offending contents, and it weakens their belief in you as a partner. We hope that you will soon remove your Doctoral Thesis and your book based on it, from your Facebook, and from the public eye, so that it can strengthen peace between our two people. We also suggest that you widely publish your backtracking on your former inaccurate views concerning the Nazi Holocaust, and that you widely publish your new enlightened and accurate views on the Nazi Holocaust, in all public media and schools, in both Arabic and in English.

Our second request is still more urgent, important and central to the renewal of talks between Palestinians and Israelis, after March 2015.

We at IFLAC are glad of your alliance with Hamas and that you are now the responsible authority for all the Palestinians people. We hope that you will be able to recognize the State of Israel and to denounce violence against it. Unfortunately, in the HAMAS CHARTER there are unacceptable clauses which we call upon you and upon the Hamas leaders to immediately delete if you want the peace talks to be resumed:

    1. First of all, the Preamble to the Hamas Charter that states: “Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam invalidates it…” has to be deleted.

Israel has no intention whatsoever to be destroyed or to let Islam invade it!

    1. Article number 13 states: “There is no negotiated settlement possible. Jihad is the only answer”.

If so, why has Hamas recently requested again to renew the peace talks with Israel? On what basis? The basis that “no negotiated settlement is possible” is an impossible basis for two serious partners to discuss peace. This article 13 has to be eliminated immediately, if both you President Abbas and the Hamas leaders are serious in wanting the peace talks to succeed this time.

    1. Article number 14 calls for: “The liberation of Palestine is the personal duty of every Palestinian”.

This article too is also in a counter direction to genuine peace negotiations. Article 14 instigates hatred of Israel and it strengthens the will of every Palestinian to destroy Israel and its people. This article too has to be immediately deleted if you want serious and responsible peace talks to take place between the two sides of the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict.

    1. Article 28: “Conspiracy indictment against ‘Israel, Judaism and Jews’”[21][25]. This too is a completely negative and false accusation against the Jewish people and Israel, as we see from their following statement: “The Zionist invasion is a vicious invasion. It does not refrain from resorting to all methods, using all evil and contemptible ways to achieve its end. It relies greatly in its infiltration and espionage operations …. They aim at undermining societies, destroying values, corrupting consciences, deteriorating character and annihilating Islam”.

As the negative and false articles above, also Article 28 is not only basically totally false, but it also aims at propounding its dishonest views as vicious and poisonous Palestinian propaganda. It too should also be immediately eliminated as its lies and false statements present a wrong image of Israel which leads to hatred of the Jewish people. Israel is a legitimate State established by the majority of the United Nations in May 1948, and not a “vicious invasion”. Among the blatant lies in this article is that Israel’s aim is “annihilating Islam”! Israel has no intention whatsoever of “annihilating Islam”, its intention is to live in peace and good relations with its peaceful Muslim neighbors.

Please President Abbas, do your best to convince from your own experience, that “War, violence and hatred” are not the way to an honest and lasting Peace Treaty between two people who are earnest in reaching reconciliation and peace. The way is to come to the peace table with an open heart and mind and not with false negative conceptions and fixed defamation of the partner. Only in this way can the negotiations between two open, honest and willing partners reach a successful result, accepted by both sides.

The offending articles above in the Hamas Charter should be eliminated at once, as well as a general revision of the aim of all the Covenant, if we really want the forthcoming peace negotiations to succeed this time. No talks can start with a partner who from the outset wants to destroy your country and to kill all its inhabitants. So, please President Mahmoud Abbas, do your best to convince the Hamas leaders now that they have asked for the renewal of the peace talks with Israel, that they should revise all the negative aspects of their Covenant, and delete at once all the four unacceptable articles mentioned above.

In addition, you can remind the leaders of Hamas, that more than half the citizens of Israel are Jews who fled or were thrown out from the Arab countries, with only their shirts on their backs, after 1948. In every conflict both sides suffer, like the Palestinians, the Jews from Arab countries in Israel, were also tragic victims of the Arab-Israeli conflict. However, they did not commit any “Intefada” on anybody.

We at IFLAC are convinced that you honorable President Mahmoud Abbas have the full authority and the wide experience and wisdom to convince the leaders of Hamas to make these radical changes in their Covenant as soon as possible, so that it can convince all the Israelis that you President Abbas are indeed the only responsible and reliable partner that can lead both our people to Peace.

Dear President Abbas, we are looking forward to your positive response to our plea that will indeed strengthen both our people in the path to a Peace Treaty, like the one with Egypt and the one with Jordan. A Peace Treaty would give the opportunity to the Palestinian people to have a peaceful State of their own and to flourish by the side of their neighbor Israel.

To stay calm and keep working for peace

    Text: Solveig Hansen

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza tend to polarize people around the world – you only have to take a look at the commentary fields in newspapers or social media to see the divide. Let us hope the cease-fire will hold this time.

IFLAC Yahoo Group Administrator Hany Eldeib reminded the group members about the importance of remaining cool and balanced. He wrote the piece below. If you want to subscribe to the group and receive the daily Digest, please send an email to: IFLAC-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

    Dear IFLAC group members:

I rarely try to recommend solutions to Israel or the Palestinians since I live in the comfortable American suburbia and neither the dumb rockets of Hamas nor the smart bombs of Israel are falling on my head. But I think the current situation is causing a crisis in the hearts and minds of peace advocates in general, and IFLAC members in particular and so I would like to express my opinion and advice.

    1) Most of us probably agree that Hamas is a criminal organization and not a legitimate resistance organization. They are of the same stock as ISIL or Daesh who are slaughtering Christians and other minorities in Iraq. Imagine what they would do if they could to the Jewish people of Israel. Also keep in mind what Hamas is doing to its own people and how it uses them as human shields and sacrifices them for its evil propaganda campaign.

    2) Israel on the other hand has maintained its traditional deterrence doctrine, which proved not to work with Hamas again and again, which can be summarized as follows: “if you hit Israel we will hit you back so much harder that you will think twice about hitting us again. We will also hit the people that support you until they stop supporting you and get angry at you for putting them in harms way”. Israel has been consistent in applying this policy to the point where Hamas knew exactly how Israel will respond and played it to launch its evil propaganda war.

    3) So, on one hand we have an evil organization that does not mind sacrificing its own women and children. On the other hand we have a government trying to defend its people with a rigid deterrence doctrine that does not work.

    4) Israel needs to understand that there is no way it will win this propaganda campaign against Hamas when people see pictures of dead babies which is exactly what Hamas wants.

    5) Thus, Israel needs to come up with a smarter way to deal with the people of Gaza other than the military approach. From my safe and comfortable home in suburbian America I can not give advice to Israel but I think if Israel is better to the Palestinian Arabs than Hamas is then it will go a long way towards solving the problem.

    6) We peace lovers and advocates need to show sympathy for Arab as well as Israeli people and give both advice to end the violence, but we need to remain cool and understand that emotions are high and we do not live in either Gaza or Israel where people are endangered.

    7) So in the end, stay calm and keep working for peace !!!

    Hany Eldeib
