A strong voice from Kenya: Muthoni Likimani appointed IFLAC Peace Ambassador

Renowned author Muthoni Likimani (b. 1926) has been appointed IFLAC Peace Ambassador in Kenya. At 88, she is as active as ever, as the founder member and chairperson of FEMTEL Women Writers Association in Kenya. She tells us that she also get invited to talk at various forums at colleges and other institutions. “Quite often, my advice has been on using power of pen not guns to fight ones right,” she says.
Muthoni Likimani has worked as a broadcaster, teacher, publisher, and author. Among her books are Passbook Number F.47927: Women and Mau Mau in Kenya, What Does a Man Want, They Shall Be Chastised, and Fighting Without Ceasing, her biography.
Equality for women and their empowerment are a common denominator in her work and writing. She is currently working on compiling an anthology about vandalizing of women in the society on areas such as sex abuse, FGM, early forced marriages, and domestic violence.

I am highly inspired by Muthoni and her literary works. I have read her book, They Shall be Chastised, and even reviewed it and the review published in the Standard newspapers. She is a literary giant.
