Poem of the Month, May 2013: Let’s Make Peace!

This month we bring you a poem by Kaila Shabat. She moved to Israel from her native England as a volunteer after the Six-Day War, and now lives in a suburb of Tel Aviv.

    By Kaila Shabat

    Let us stride resolutely towards
the Era of Universal Peace and Love
that religion and colour not segregate us
    nor high walls separate us.

Let us dispense with hatred and war,
    with the futility of regret,
    forgive and forget past pain,
relegate it behind an opaque curtain.

Let our primed pens pave the path
    to peace with our neighbours.
    Let art and music,
    sport and technology,
    convey our national pride.

Let us learn to live every moment
in joy and peace and love, together
with all the Children of Earth
    in God’s glorious playground.
